As a researcher in the field of Clinical Child and Family studies I study the quality of relationships between caregivers, parents and children, and the way these interactions can sustainably improve child development. I try to broaden the understanding, by studying important factors relevant to relationships and child development (i.e., emotion regulation, self-determination, self-efficacy, motivation, attachment), and also the underlying mechanisms (i.e., physiological regulation, such as heart rate, autonomic nervous system, cortisol and sleep). The projects I am involved in are strongly embedded in clinical practice, and based on enduring collaborations with relevant stakeholders in schools, parent organizations, hospitals and rehabilitation centers.
